Marriage in Germany
Please NOTE: A visa for an intended marriage in Germany can only be granted if you possess a certificate of intended marriage (“Anmeldung zur Eheschließung”) issued by the competent German Civil Registrar (“Standesamt”).
Please make sure that you present all the documents applicable as per the checklist when applying for your visa at the Embassy. Failure to do so may result in a rejection of your application.
Please submit:
- Valid passport (passport must have at least two empty pages)
- One print-out of your duly filled and signed VIDEX application form
Two biometrical passport photos, one of which glued to the application form
your birth certificate (if it is a Cambodian birth certificate: authenticated by the Cambodian Foreign Office and legalized by the German Embassy).
valid certificate of intended marriage (“Anmeldung zur Eheschließung”) issued by the competent German Civil Registrar (“Standesamt”), not older than 6 months
A1 Certificate from an ALTE-certified language school (Goethe Institut, ÖSD, telc, TestDaF, ECL), not older than 1 year
- Copy of your passport (data page; if applicable: all pages containing German visas including entry stamps)
- Copy of all data pages and pages containing entry stamps/visas to Cambodia of your fiancé/e’s passport
Copy of your fiancé/e’s identity card (if German) or copy of the fiancé’s passport plus current certificate of residence (if not German, but EU national) or copy of the fiancé’s passport and residence permit card (if non-EU national)
Formal declaration of obligation according to §§ 66-68 of the German Residence Law (“Verpflichtungserklärung”) with the confirmation of the Immigration Office (“Ausländerbehörde”) that the declarant is financially capable.
Proof of a travel health insurance, valid for the first 90 days of your intended stay in Germany. The insurance must be valid in all Schengen countries and have a minimum coverage sum of 30.000 Euro.
For non-Cambodian visa applicants: proof of lawful residency in Cambodia
- Visa fee of 75 Euro, payable in USD
Please prepare one application set with the above-mentioned documents and bring all your original certificates with you. Please DO NOT staple any documents.
- In case a document is not written in German or English, it has to be submitted together with notary attested German translation. (list of translators)
- Documents that were not issued in Germany must be legalized or have an apostille. Cambodian documents need to be authenticated by the Cambodian Foreign Office so that they can be legalized by the German Embassy.
- Please note that the German Missions reserve the right to ask for additional documents or to initiate a further investigation of certificates.
Please note that submission of the above-mentioned documents does not guarantee that a visa will be granted.
