General information

Please make sure that you present all the documents applicable as per the checklist when taking your appointment at the Embassy. Failure to do so may result in the rejection of your application.

If you have received your notification of admission to university or a foundation course, you should apply for visa for study purposes.

Please submit the following documents for your application, as original in paper format A4:

  • Your valid passport
  • Your legalized birth certificate (if it is a Cambodian birth certificate: authenticated by the Cambodian Foreign Ministry and legalized by the German Embassy).
  • One print-out of your duly filled and signed Application form (VIDEX)
  • Two biometrical passport photos, one of which glued to the application form (strict requirements, see details)
  • Visa fee 75 Euro, payable in only cash in USD.
  • Letter of admission to study
  • Proof of language skills:
    • Confirmation of your registration for a preparatory German language course, stating the type and duration of the course
    • OR confirmation that the major you chose is in English language
    • OR German language certificate B2 from an ALTE-certified language school in the Cambodia (only Goethe Institut, ÖSD, telc, TestDaF, ECL). The certificate should not be older than one year.
  • Diploma or equivalent
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Motivation letter in which you explain the reason for choosing the subject of your studies and for choosing the university in Germany
  • Proof of finance:
    • Formal obligation according to §§ 66-68 AufenthG with a confirmation of the declarant’s financial capacity by the local Immigration
    • OR proof of a blocked bank account in your name with an amount of EUR 992 per month of your stay in Germany. For further information concerning a blocked account in Germany, please see this page.
    • OR a scholarship
  • Proof of health insurance coverage
    • Certificate of the German statutory health insurance with indicated confirmation of the validity of the health insurance cover from entry coverage from the start of semester
    • OR a certificate from a private health insurance company with indicated confirmation of the validity of the health insurance coverage from the start of semester if the type and scope of health insurance coverage corresponds to that of a statutory health insurance,
    • OR an incoming health insurance for the period between the arrival and start of semester if the type and scope of health insurance coverage corresponds to that of a statutory health insurance.

Your application must be submitted personally at the German Embassy. Once you have obtained all the necessary documents, please register for an appointment here.

Please note:

Foreign documents which neither were issued in the Cambodia nor in Germany must be legalized or have an apostille.

Documents that are not in German or English language need to be translated by a recognized translator. For further information, please see this list .
