General information

Please make sure that you present all the documents applicable as per the checklist when taking your appointment at the Embassy. Failure to do so may result in the rejection of your application.

A visa for up to one year can be issued for participation in an intensive language course.

Please submit the following documents for your application, as original in paper format A4:

  • Your valid passport
  • Your legalized birth certificate (if it is a Cambodian birth certificate: authenticated by the Cambodian Foreign Ministry and legalized by the German Embassy).
  • One print-out of your duly filled and signed Application form (VIDEX)
  • Two biometrical passport photos, one of which glued to the application form (strict requirements, see details)
  • Visa fee 75 Euro, payable in only cash in USD.
  • Confirmation of a language school in Germany that you are registered and have paid for an intensive German language course with lessons of at least 18 hours per week (no week-end or evening courses)
  • If available German certificate A1 from an ALTE-certified language school (Goethe Institute, ÖSD, telc, Test DaF, ECL). The certificate should not be older than one year. Please note: Without proof of prior knowledge of the German language, the visa application may be rejected due to doubts about the purpose of the stay.
  • Your letter of motivation, stating the reasons for the language course in Germany
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • Proof of finance:
    • Formal obligation according to §§ 66-68 AufenthG with a confirmation of the declarant’s financial capacity by the local Immigration (“Ausländerbehörde”)
    • OR proof of a blocked bank account in your name with an amount of 1.091 Euro per month of your stay in Germany. For further information concerning a blocked account in Germany, please see here.
  • Planned accomodation in Germany for the entire intended stay
  • Evidence of your rootedness in the Cambodia:
    • If you are employed: Work contract, bank account statements showing the transfer of your last six monthly salaries,
    • If you are self-employed: Proof of your registration and commercial activity of your company, income tax returns and bank account statements for the last six months.
    • If you own a property: Original land title.
    • If you are married and / or have minor children: legalized marriage / birth certificates. (if it is a Cambodian certificate: authenticated by the Cambodian Foreign Ministry and legalized by the German Embassy).
    • If you already travelled to a Schengen country: Copy of your Schengen visas
  • Proof of health insurance coverage
    • incoming health insurance in type and scope of health insurance coverage corresponding to that of a statutory health insurance, covering your whole stay in Germany

Your application must be submitted personally at the German Embassy. Once you have obtained all the necessary documents, please register for an appointment here.

Please note:

Foreign documents which neither were issued in the Cambodia nor in Germany must be legalized or have an apostille.

Documents that are not in German or English language need to be translated by a recognized translator. For further information, please see this list .
