Family reunification: Parents joining children
Please submit the following documents for your application, one original with one copy of each original in paper format A4:
- Application form (VIDEX) completely filled in and signed
- Two biometrical passport photos, one of which glued to the application form, not older than 6 months. (strict requirements, see details)
- Valid national passport
- Your legalized birth certificate, issued by the Cambodian Foreign Ministry
- Your child’s legalized birth certificate. If the child was born in the Cambodia: Legalized birth certificate issued by Cambodian Foreign Ministry
- If your child was born within marriage: (Legalized) marriage certificate
- If your child was born outside of marriage and you are the child’s mother: If the father recognized paternity according to German law: Your declaration of consent to the recognition of paternity. Recognition of paternity and consent can be notarized at the German Embassy or in Germany, at the Civil Registrar, the Local Youth Office or any German notary public.
- If your child was born outside of marriage and you are the child’s father: Proof of your recognition of paternity, mother’s consent to the recognition of paternity and declaration of joint custody. These declarations can be notarized at the German Embassy or in Germany, at the Civil Registrar, the Local Youth Office or any notary public.
- Proof that the German parent had the German nationality when the child was born: Copy of the German identity card or passport which was valid on the day of the child’s birth
- If available: Copy of your child’s German passport
Your application must be submitted personally at the German Embassy. Once you have obtained all necessary documents, please register for an appointment here.

You can also apply for an online application here. Once the online application is complete and pre-checked, you will be able to make an appointment to submit your biometrics and the applications of your family to the embassy.
Please note:
- In case a document is not written in German or English, it has to be submitted together with notary attested German translation. (list of translators)
- Please note that the German Missions reserve the right to ask for additional documents or to initiate a further investigation of certificates.
- As your application will also be forwarded to the competent immigration authorities in Germany, processing will take at least three months. Please be informed that regular status enquiries during the first three months after submission of your application will not be answered.
- Please ensure that you have family health cover through your spouse. Until health cover has been established you might want to take a travel health insurance.
Submission of the above-mentioned documents does not guarantee that a visa will be granted.
