Family reunification: Joining non-German EU/ EEA spouse
This visa category applies to spouses of non-German EU and EEA as well as Swiss citizens.
Please submit the following documents for your application, one original with one copy of each original in paper format A4:
- Application form (VIDEX) completely filled in and signed
- Two biometrical passport photos, one of which glued to the application form, not older than 6 months. (strict requirements, see details)
- Valid national passport
- Visa fee will be waived if spouse is a non-German EU or Swiss national
- Your legalized birth certificate
- Your legalized marriage certificate
- If you were divorced: Court order confirming the divorce
- If your former spouse passed away: Legalized certificate of previous marriage and legalized death certificate of your deceased spouse
- From your spouse: Copy of his/ her passport, a current residence certificate and a work contract.
Your application must be submitted personally at the German Embassy. Once you have obtained all necessary documents, please register for an appointment here. Please note:
Incomplete applications will be decided based on the documents that were submitted, and may be rejected.
- In case a document is not written in German or English, it has to be submitted together with notary attested German translation. (list of translators)
Foreign documents which were not issued in Germany must be legalized or have an apostille.
- Please note that the German Missions reserve the right to ask for additional documents or to initiate a further investigation of certificates.
- Submission of the above-mentioned documents does not guarantee that a visa will be granted.
