Long-term stays (more than 90 days, national visa)
As a rule, all foreigners require visas for stays of more than 90 days or stays leading to gainful employment. Exemptions apply to EU and EEA (European Economic Area) citizens and Swiss nationals (a complete table of all nationalities can be found here).
After having entered Germany with a national visa, the competent foreigners authority is responsible for issuing the residence permit. Please expect a processing time for the visa application of 6 weeks to 3 months
